Japanese-inspired pond & alpine slope in large sloping garden

  • large rural garden near Aberfeldy with fantastic views
  • garden developments phased 2010-2012 for two areas; design advice & plans provided by Shades of Green Garden Design; construction & planting supervised by client
  • Phase 1: Redesign of grassy areas outside the master bedroom & sloping down alongside the house
  • circular lawn & deep borders provide a focal point outside the master bedroom, with a planting focus of autumn foliage colour
  • grass paths lead out from the circular lawn, encouraging a variety of routes down the slope
  • alpine rock garden now runs alongside the house & steppping stones through planted gravel form the pathway from the raised deck to the rest of the garden
  • Phase 2: Tranformation of an ugly, over-grown, leaking pond into a Japanese-inspired pond garden, complete with stepping stone paths & ‘tea house’ with copper guttering & rain chain
  • the pond garden is now a favourite resting place for the clients & their dogs & was constructed by www.splashgordon.co.uk
  • this garden featured on the television gardening programme ‘Beechgrove Garden’ in June 2013
  • the garden also featured on ‘Show Me Your Garden’ (Sky1, 2015) – my client won her episode of the competition & took home the golden trowel

“We are pleased with the rock features in the new garden areas and like the way the garden blends in with the surrounding landscape. The service provided by Shades of Green Garden Design was very friendly and helpful, and Belinda is good to work with. She listened to what we wanted and to what we were trying to achieve.”
