The fundraising totals are in and I am pleased to announce that the event raised £3,850 in support of Strathcarron Hospice. Thank you to all my friends, clients and family members who visited the gardens and helped on the weekend, and to the weather god who kept the rain away until 4.30 pm on the Sunday afternoon.
This was the ninth triennial Dollar Open Gardens weekend and, over the course of the years, it has raised over £34,000 for the hospice. I read a rather sobering article the other day about Strathcarron Hospice – it is funded entirely by voluntary contributions and it costs £75,000 per week to provide it’s excellent range of services. So, we must all keep on supporting and fundraising!
There are photos of this year’s event in the galleries on the Dollar Gardens website: www.dollargardens.info, including this one of me enjoying ‘Nana’s Orange Cake’ on my Mum’s bench next to the shouty orange poppies which in the garden when we moved in 12 years ago.
Now, what changes can I make to the garden for the next Open Gardens event in 2017 …. ?
