Garden for client with young children & impaired mobility

  • clients with young children contacted me in summer 2014 to redesign the bland sloping garden around their house
  • safe access round the garden/arrival areas was a problem as one of the clients has mobility problems & there were no flat areas apart from a badly built deck at the rear of the house (rebuilt summer 2015)
  • large raised pond at one side of house was removed to make space for play equipment for children & paved area with raised beds was added for growing vegetables
  • new planting needed to create privacy & interest at the front of the house & in the upper & lower parking areas
  • all new borders were thickly mulched to reduce maintenance
  • stone terracing (style matched to existing) was used in front garden & lower arrival space to create easy care planting areas to replace steep grassy slopes
  • all paths were widened & steep steps from lower parking area were rebuilt for easier access; low slip paving was used for safety
  • high fences separating garden areas were replaced with lower fences to open up views across the site
  • levels were adjusted throughout the garden areas to enhance safe access & maintenance
  • garden constructed by www.karegardens.com
  • plan of garden can be found in the gallery

“Thank you for transforming our once bare, un-inspiring garden into a stunning, practical and safe environment for our family. It is hard to believe that it is the same garden. From start to finish you were a pleasure to work with and your skills from design to project management were first class. Thank you also for recommending Kare Gardens Ltd as the contractor as you couldn’t have got anyone better”
