steading garden for family & dog
- rear garden in new steading development, backing onto fields & with lovely views of the Ochils from the end of the garden (2010)
- a 'rescue' project so it was necessary to work around some of the inherited new hard landscaping whilst creating a unified feel for the garden
- privacy issues & poorly drained, heavy soil provided additional challenges
- a curving sandstone sett path now snakes down the garden, providing a strong visual feature & offering a more leisurely journey from the house to the back gate for dog walking
- trees & shrubs in the curving borders on each side of the lawn will provide privacy from the neighbouring gardens & help to integrate the garden into the wider landscape
- the raised patio close to the house is separated from the rest of the garden by a curving border of traditional fragrant shrub roses underplanted with hardy geraniums & catmint
- integrated plum slate rotary drying area also serves to mask a large manhole cover; concealed wheelie bin store tidies up the area by the back door
- pergola at end of garden gets the last of the evening sun & is surrounded by coloured stem dogwoods & fragrant climbers
- planting needs time to mature, but the client is already delighted by the long season of colour which starts with early bulbs in February & ends with fabulous autumn foliage & coloured winter stems
- garden constructed by www.karegardens.com
